About the Text Formatter
Text copied from PDFs, scanned documents, old emails, or certain word processors often comes out with inconsistent spacing — double spaces where there should be one, random line breaks in the middle of sentences, or missing capitalization after periods. Manually fixing this is tedious for anything longer than a paragraph.
This tool applies a few targeted, reversible cleanup rules: collapsing multiple consecutive spaces into a single space, normalizing excessive blank lines between paragraphs down to one, and optionally capitalizing the first letter after each sentence-ending punctuation mark.
Each fix is independently toggleable, since not every fix is appropriate for every piece of text — code snippets or intentionally formatted text, for example, might need spacing preserved exactly as-is, so you're always in control of which cleanup rules get applied.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will this tool change the actual words in my text?
No — it only adjusts whitespace (extra spaces, blank lines) and optionally capitalization at the start of sentences. It never adds, removes, or changes any words, so your original content and meaning stay exactly the same.
What counts as a "paragraph break" fix?
It normalizes runs of multiple consecutive blank lines down to a single blank line between paragraphs, which is the most common spacing issue when copying from PDFs or documents that used excessive line spacing.
Is the sentence capitalization fix reliable for all text?
It works well for standard prose with typical sentence-ending punctuation, but it isn't perfect for text with abbreviations, quotes, or unconventional punctuation, since detecting true sentence boundaries programmatically has some inherent ambiguity — always review the result.
Can I format code snippets with this tool?
It's not recommended — code relies on exact, intentional spacing and indentation that this tool's spacing cleanup would likely disrupt. This tool is built for prose and general written content, not code.
Does this fix spelling or grammar mistakes?
No, this tool only addresses spacing and capitalization formatting issues, not spelling or grammar. For grammar and spelling correction, you'd need a dedicated writing assistant tool.
Is my text uploaded to a server when I use this tool?
No — all formatting happens locally in your browser using JavaScript. Your text is never sent anywhere or stored.
