Nothing is uploaded to a server — everything happens in your browser

Tip: start with a square source image (ideally 512x512px or larger) for the cleanest results across every generated size.

Check how your icon looks at browser-tab scale versus home-screen scale.

04

About the Favicon Generator

A favicon is the small icon that represents your website in a browser tab, bookmarks list, and — for mobile users who add your site to their home screen — as an app-like icon. Different contexts expect different pixel sizes, and using a single low-resolution image everywhere often looks blurry or improperly cropped in at least one of those places.

This tool generates the full standard set from one source image: 16x16 and 32x32 for classic browser tab and bookmark icons, 48x48 for older Windows site icons, 180x180 for Apple's touch icon (used when iOS users add your site to their home screen), and 192x192 for Android's equivalent home screen icon.

Each size is generated by proportionally scaling and center-cropping your source image to a square, then resizing down using high-quality smoothing — giving you a complete, ready-to-use favicon set without needing dedicated icon design software.

Frequently Asked Questions

What size should my source image be?

512x512 pixels or larger, and ideally already square, gives the cleanest results across all generated sizes. Smaller source images will still work but may look softer once scaled up to larger favicon sizes like 180x180.

What happens if I upload a non-square image?

The tool automatically center-crops your image to a square before generating each size, focusing on the middle of the image. For full control over what gets kept, crop your image to a square first using the Image Cropper tool.

Where do I actually put these favicon files on my website?

Upload each downloaded file to your site's root directory (or an /images/ folder), then reference them in your HTML <head> with the correct <link rel="icon"> and <link rel="apple-touch-icon"> tags pointing to each file and size.

Do I need all five sizes, or just one?

For the best appearance across all browsers and devices, all five are recommended, since each targets a different display context. If you only add one, browsers will generally scale it, but the result may look softer than a properly-sized dedicated icon.

Why does my favicon still look wrong after uploading the new files?

Browsers cache favicons aggressively, sometimes for days. Try a hard refresh (Ctrl+Shift+R or Cmd+Shift+R), clearing your browser cache, or testing in a private/incognito window to see the updated icon.

Is my logo image uploaded to a server during generation?

No — every size is generated locally in your browser using the Canvas API. Your source image is never uploaded anywhere.
